Your guide to writing and organizing with Jot — Plain Text Notes
Powered by OrangeMac
Writing in Jot is immediate — no accounts, no setup required:
Keep your notes organized by grouping them into folders:
While editing, a formatting toolbar appears above the keyboard:
Enable iCloud Sync in Settings to keep your notes in iCloud Drive, automatically synced across all your Apple devices. Notes appear in the Files app under Jot.
Create nested folders to organize your notes however you like. Move and rename notes and folders anytime with a swipe.
Switch between editing and preview mode to see your Markdown rendered as formatted text — headings, bold, italics, lists, and more.
Search across all your notes instantly. Tap the search icon and type to find any note by title or content.
Choose Light, Dark, or System theme. Pick an accent color — Orange, Red, Green, Blue, Pink, or High Contrast.
Share any note as plain text or Markdown directly from the editor using the system share sheet.
Markdown is a simple way to format text using plain characters. Jot writes and stores your notes as plain .md files so they're always readable anywhere — even without Jot.
| What you type | What it renders as |
|---|---|

## Heading 2 | Medium heading |
**bold** | bold |
_italic_ | italic |
- item | Bullet list item |
1. item | Numbered list item |
`code` | inline code |

You don't need to memorize Markdown syntax — the formatting bar above the keyboard inserts it for you:
Choose your preferred accent color — used for buttons, links, and highlights throughout the app. Options: Orange, Red, Green, Blue, Pink, High Contrast, and Rainbow (follows iOS system accent).
Toggle iCloud Sync on to store notes in iCloud Drive and sync across devices. When enabled:

Solution:
Solution:
Solution: This can happen if the file hasn't fully downloaded from iCloud yet. Pull down on the note list to trigger a refresh and wait a moment for the download to complete.
Solution: The formatting bar appears above the keyboard when the note editor is active. Tap inside the note body to bring up the keyboard and the toolbar will appear.
Solution: Search works on locally downloaded notes. If iCloud Sync is on and a note hasn't fully downloaded, it may not appear in results. Wait for the download to complete or tap Sync Now.
